On the third day of CNY, we took a road trip up north to visit the husband's paternal side. In a kampung just outside of Melaka.
My kids always look forward to the visit because it means that they get to play with fireworks and mingle with their second cousins that they only see once or twice a year. It's funny how they can communicate despite my kids speaking english and them, Chinese. Quite heart warming to watch them interact!

For me, it's about hanging out in that grand old house. Filled with all the memories of the generations past. Which in a way reminded me of my own childhood home.
Time passes very slowly there. There really isn't much to do there, other than just pottering around the house. Recently, they've added Wifi, which is really really exciting if you ask me.
But yes, this annual visitation is really for my kids. I love that they still have this part of history that exists in such modern times. (They normally bring their new gadgets to share with their cousins. Which I am pretty amused as it seems like a cross cultural exchange. =) )

Kayden lives for the fireworks. He was literally outdoors all the time until the fire crackers were all exhausted. Needless to say, he had a blast (pun intended) and asked when are we visiting next.
