Baby Kate - 3 Months Update

Dear Kate,

You turn three months today!

This has been such a month of growth for you, my dear.

A lil cryin'

For one, you are starting to grow into your own lil person with your lil strongwilled character. These days, you definitely know what you like and what you don't. We've carried you in positions that you are uncomfortable in and you've made sure that we adjust you to a position that you like.

Your older brothers have started school too! And so everyday, Mommy will bring you along on the school run. And without fail, someone else will cart you away from me as soon as I walk into the school grounds. The ladies there love cuddling you and I have no hesitation letting someone else have a lil moment with you.

In fact, I think we will have to enrol you there as the teachers there know you from the time you were in utero. We often joke that it is orientation from birth for you!

Chubby 'un

You have grown so much lengthwise and in weight too! Mommy is still fully breastfeeding you. And you've been great with both the bottles and the boob. But that said, you definitely prefer to feed from the source. It's your number 1 choice for refueling.

Daddy cannot help but love your lil chubby limbs. He loves to hold you up like Simba in the Lion King!

Practising your lil neck workout!

These last few weeks have shown how strong your lil neck has become. We can now carry you in an upright position without supporting your neck much!

Nom Nom

Developmentally, you've started noticing your lil hands! You coo and gurgle when we talk to you. Making the most animated noises a lil one can only do! Too cute, darling! Sometimes you'll amuse us with a loud giggle and we cannot help but laugh along with you.

One for the album!

Sometime this month, you've started to recognize who Mommy and Daddy are. So when someone else is carrying you, you give a worried look on your face . One that says, "Why aren't you the one holding me, Mommy?"

So far, it has not erupted into stranger anxiety. But I reckon it won't be long till that happens.

We've noticed that you've started to gain a lil interest in your toys. It's just starting to hit you that these are things that you can play with. I'm sure hoping that this would gain momentum so that I can have a few spare moments to do things around that house!

Sharing a laugh with your kor kor

Kayden remains your current favorite brother for now. You have such adoration for him. Whenever he comes into your line of vision, you perk up and make lil noises at him. Sometimes, he indulges you and have lil short conversations with you.

Jakey loves to come to wherever you are lying and give you a lil kiss. He is so good with looking after you in the car. He gives you your dummy and makes sure that it doesn't fall out.

Mommy is just stoked that you've been sleeping through the nights. Your regular bedtime is between 9:45pm to 10:30pm. After a bath and some milk, you will slowly ease yourself into a drowsy state and fall asleep on your own either in my arms or in your cot. That's right! We've gone from co-sleeping with you to moving you into your own lil bed. =)

Right now, you are attempting to flip! And you'll get a lil frustrated when it doesn't happen. Gotta keep trying, my dear! Hard work always pay off!

Ok, I better sign off now. Gotta spend time with your kor kors while you nap! I love you sweetie!

Good things come in 3!

It's official! I have 3 kids!!

So after 12 weeks of change and adaptation, it has finally hit me that I have three lil 'uns under 5.

Now, stats would tell you that it is not the best thing to have in a perfect family planning set up, but, I must say, that I am actually having a ball.

Transiting from one kid to two was easy. Especially when the boys were so close in age. They literally went through the same stages, almost at the same time! They ate the same stuff. Played well with each other. Plus, it was easy bringing the two of them out because I had a double pram. So it was cushy times.

Moving on from two to three took a bigger step. Firstly, I had the boys routine downpat. Secondly, it's been awhile since I had a baby.

But I think God has been good because the transition was really smooth.

Kate has been such a great baby to look after. She sleeps through the night. She feeds really well. The boys love being big brothers. The lucky gal gets kisses when she wakes up every morning.

And when I am driving, they would help me to either feed her or keep her occupied so that she would not cry. They would put her dummy in her mouth or talk to her. Sometimes, Jakey would hold her hand to let her know that someone is sitting next to her.

The biggest fear I had was going out with the three of them. (Keeping them at home is so easy but not possible!)

But it was quite uncalled for! Because the boys are now used to walking on their own, without a pram. And if both of them are tired, we'll either head home OR I'd put on the skateboard on the Bugaboo so that they can stand on it. Easy done!

Some days are a lil bit more work than others but I guess we can't really have it all. =)

So yes! I am now a mommy of 3 under 30. It wasn't on my life plan but I guess if you can't fight it, just go with it! Plus, it's really not that hard, especially when they are the three littlest people that you love most in your life! =)

Rough Edges

The thing about raising boys is ... sometimes they tend to play a lil rougher than what you like.

We were watching GG on DVD on Sunday morn whilst the boys were busy chasing each other around the apartment.

Then all of a sudden, we saw Jake trip over his own foot, fall towards the basketball stand and then tilting towards the metal edge of the door of the TV console.

All in SLOW MO.

There was that usual silence before the big wails began and we knew that it was going to be BIG one.

(Something similar had probably happened before. =/)

We immediately went into autopilot. I picked him up and plonked him on Darien and then ran to get a towel to press the wound.

Turns out, our own lil klutz hit his forehead and got himself two lil diagonal slashes, slightly more than skin deep.

My heart broke just by looking at the wounds.

Thank God he is ok! Because after heaps of cuddles, he went back to playing with his toys.

As for us, we are definitely keeping those doors shut now.

Dun wanna risk another fall like that!

Big Boos Boos for the second bubba

As if nothing has ever happened!

Hello 2010!

Dear Diary,

Feels like we haven't spoken for a while.

So 2009 has arrived and is now done and dusted.

Looking back, it had been a learning chapter for us in those three6five days.

See, we moved back to SG on the last day of 2008. After frantically packing up our belongings in Melbourne and transitting in Perth for 24 hours, we arrived blurry eyed on the 31st of Dec.

Starting off the year 2 0 0 9, back in the homeland that we grew up in, we took some time to adapt to life back home again.

The kids started school, based on the recommendation of a girlfriend, and completely loved every moment of their student life. They learnt that there were other people who loved them just as much as their Mommy and Daddy and spent a fair bit of time getting to know their extended family.

The toddlers that we brought back from Oz blossomed into sentence speaking kids who are comfortable in their own skin. It's amazing how grown up they are now as compared to then.

Darien went off to work in his Dad's business. He had much to learn as it was a trade that he was not familiar with. There were networks that he had to set up, business trips that he took and exhibitions he had to attend. He was basically learning the ropes of running a business .

In between that, he was busy catching up with his friends and, of course, dedicating much of his time to his beloved Basketball.

I came back to SG with the notion of settling the kids into a set routine and then planned to head back to the workforce. But that all took a backseat when I fell pregnant with our third child. It was quite a surprise as we didn't plan to have another baby for a couple of years. But the minute Kate arrived, we fell in love with our first lil gal. She is just the cutest baby!

So I pretty much played the Mommy role for all of '09.

We did a lil bit of traveling last year. As a family, we went to Bali for a week long vacation. It was a relaxing trip with lots of massages and spa treatments. It was a good time that we spent hanging by the pool and suntanning @ the beaches. Both my folks and my sister came along and it was a blast.

Darien and I sneaked off for a trip to Europe. Air tickets were sooo cheap that we managed to travel to Paris and Rome on a ticket price that was usually meant for one. On the way to Paris, we hopped by Dubai and was doing an Amazing Race kinda trip to see what it had to offer.

Europe was a beautiful continent, albeit a lil different from what we read and knew. It was filled with lots of history and culture. The food was good. There was plenty to see and discover. We saw ancient ruins, majestic palaces and lots of museums. Most of all, we got to spend some time with each other and our friends, sans kids.

It wasn't an easy year for us as a couple. There were a few rough patches along the way. Through all the arguments and uncertainties, I realize that my husband is a loyal partner who is quite determined to be married just once in his life. He is going nowhere. Plus, he refuses to let the lil things take us down and so our new year resolution is to be better partners for each other this year.

And that was our 2009.

This year, all I want to do is to find a place to buy for us and to make it into a home. And I would like to have more me time. I'd think I'd let my own standing in my life slide a lil and I would like to make ME a priority this year.

That's it! 2010... here we come. So bring it on. =)
