Last Weekend

The view from the apartment

So this morning we opened our door to a bevy of people who trampled all over our apartment in search of their next home.

Which means, that, this is indeed goodbye for us, as we prepare to leave this place called home for the last 4 years.

Memories were built in this lil space and we are grateful for the time that we spent here. :)

After catching Wicked

So this week, we spent some time catching a concert and a play.

Hubbi bought tickets to Alicia Keys, who is wonderfully talented and gorgeous. And then we went for Wicked last night. Both of which we thoroughly enjoyed.

I will definitely miss the concerts and plays that are readily available.

But on the same token, I am really glad that Darien and I have been soaked in this culture that influence the way we live and breathe. We have made a few good friends in our lil journey and have tasted some of the finest wines and food that Australia has to offer.

But more importantly, we found each other which is the most wonderful thing that ever happened. And because of that, we had a lovely life and two beautiful kids out of it.

With that, we will carry a positive mindset as we leave for Singapore.

Pre Move Jitters

We are sooo close to moving home right now, I can almost smell the nasi lemak from the hawker center.

Apart from packing things into the boxes, we've sold most of our furniture and white goods, pending pick up closer to when we move. Plus, I've organized for Rustie to be flown back to SG, as well.

Sounds like I've got it all sorted?

Not really.

It seems like relocating is very much like getting married. There are a whole heap of nitty gritty that you gotta attend to. And it's expensive.

Also, because we are using niche products for our everyday needs, we have to stock up as well. Sighz. Troublesome, or what?

So I took out the weighing scale last night to estimate the the cost of shipping and I reckon we will be running up a bill of $XXXX to move the things home.

The funny thing is life is still going on as usual. There is no real urgency to have a "final" moment with the places that we love or the food that we crave. It's more like we are prepping for a holiday.

Clearly, denial is our middle name.

So, as I mentioned to a girlfriend, that day, that I guess it will hit us like a ton of bricks when we arrive in SG and realise that there is no return air ticket for us to come back to Melbourne.

Anyway, I guess 2009 will be a transitional year for us. Settling back into a familiar environment. Kayden starting school. And it's back to searching for an apartment again.

And life will take a different turn again.

A place in time

Decluttering can be a rather therapeutic experience.

Darien and I have started to pack our things and place them in their appropriate boxes. It's usually just mundane things like books and clothes and DVDs.

Tonight I cleared out a whole bag of old memories. Pictures from our early dating days. Photos of my uni days.

And, somehow, looking back at all these photos just transports me back to that time in my life.

When I'd just arrived in Melbourne. How I was staying in a small studio with my sister. Our uni friends back then. How young we all were!!

And then there was the time I met the love of my life. The moment that I knew my life had changed. The reasons that I chose him, and him, me. It brought back that defining moment in that chapter in time.

I felt like I was 21 yet again.

So I hopped over the other room where he was sitting and sat right down on his lap and smiled.

I have been loving this dude for a reallly long time and now I love him more that I did when I met him. =)

Ahh just a night in the Tan household.

"Memories... light the corners of my mind."
